Argelès and surrounding

Diving is a sport that once you've felt the feeling it won't let you go. And that's where Argelès comes into the picture. On the symbol of Argelès it says "qui s'hi acosta, té resposta", which means something like "the one that rubs against it, stings himself".

The history of Argelès and its surroundings starts somewhere around the year 879. Due to its location close to Spain and the Pyrenees, this region has been well fought over. One war after another has taken place here and therefore you find lots of castles in this region. The 2nd World War has also left its markings, given the 4 wrecks just a couple of miles of the coast line .

Of all the coastal communities of the Pyrenees Argelès-sur-Mer surely has the longest coast line: 10 km of which 7 km of sandy beaches and 3 creeks. The pearl of the coast of Argelès is by far the boulevard along the beach, that was constructed in the nineteen eighty's. The boulevard is 1,6 km long with lots of grass and Mediterranean vegetation. It runs from Port-Argelès up to the pine woods in the North, where you find thousands of trees.

On foot, on bike, on roller blades, walking or running, the boulevard is both in summer and in winter the ideal spot to enjoy the coast of Argelès.

Besides the ancient features of this region, it is also very well known for its hiking routes. Both the natural reserve 'Mas Larrieu' to the North and 'La Masanne' to the South of Argelès provide perfect possibilities for this. We insist you take a look at the website of Argelès-sur-Mer.
